Description
H&S for School Leadership is an online course of approximately 30-45 minutes for headteachers and senior leaders, school business managers and bursars, governors and trustees, trust central teams, site and premises managers, and anyone with a health and safety remit in a school.
The course has five short lessons:
- Who the employer is and leadership accountability: The employer by school type, the role of governors and trustees, and leaders' accountability in law.
- The management system: The health and safety policy, Plan, Do, Check, Act, and making risk assessment work in a school.
- Competence and training: Competent assistance, what staff need to know, and evidencing training.
- Premises and contractors: Asbestos, water, fire, gas and electrics, contractor control, and lettings.
- Incidents and liability: RIDDOR for staff and pupils, investigating and learning, and HSE inspection.
Every teaching page is narrated with captions and includes an interaction. Each lesson before the last ends with a knowledge check, and the last lesson closes with a 12-question assessment drawn from all five lessons (70% to pass, unlimited retakes, results by lesson) and a set of personal commitments recorded with the result.
This course gives school leaders an awareness of their health and safety duties and accountability. It does not replace a competent health and safety adviser, and your employer's policies and your local authority or trust arrangements always apply.
