Description
Prevent Duty Awareness is an online course of approximately 30-45 minutes. Who it is for: Staff in organisations covered by the Prevent duty, including schools, colleges, universities, health, social care, local authorities and their contractors, and anyone who wants to understand how to spot and share concerns about radicalisation. No previous training is assumed.
The course has five short lessons:
- The Prevent duty: Why Prevent exists, the duty on specified authorities, and Prevent as safeguarding.
- Radicalisation and vulnerability: What radicalisation and extremism mean, ideologies, how people are drawn in, and the online world.
- Signs that may give cause for concern: Behaviour, language, online activity and changes, and avoiding stereotypes.
- Notice, check, share: Notice, check, share; your safeguarding or Prevent lead; records; and emergencies.
- After a referral: What happens to a Prevent referral, Channel, consent, and myths about Prevent.
Every teaching page is narrated with captions and includes an interaction. Each lesson before the last ends with a knowledge check, and the last lesson closes with a 12-question assessment drawn from all five lessons (70% to pass, unlimited retakes, results by lesson) and a set of personal commitments recorded with the result.
This course is awareness training on the Prevent duty under the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 and the Prevent duty guidance for England and Wales. Scotland has its own Prevent guidance. It does not replace your organisation's safeguarding policy or the government's own Prevent training, and your safeguarding lead's advice always applies.
