Description
Health and Safety Induction in Education is an online course of approximately 30-45 minutes for new school staff, including teaching and support staff, supply and peripatetic staff, site, catering and cleaning teams, volunteers and governors.
The course has five short lessons:
- Duties in a school: Who the employer is in different types of school, and the duties the law places on the school and on you, including to pupils and visitors.
- Hazards in a school: The hazards most likely to hurt staff and pupils in schools, from slips and handling to practical subjects and contractors.
- Fire and evacuation: What to do when the alarm sounds with a class, taking registers, and pupils who need help to evacuate.
- Accidents, first aid and reporting: First aid arrangements, recording accidents to staff and pupils, and when RIDDOR applies, including to pupils.
- Raising concerns, safety and safeguarding together: Reporting unsafe conditions, contractors on site, and where health and safety and safeguarding overlap.
Every teaching page is narrated with captions and includes an interaction. Each lesson before the last ends with a knowledge check, and the last lesson closes with a 12-question assessment drawn from all five lessons (70% to pass, unlimited retakes, results by lesson) and a set of personal commitments recorded with the result.
This is the general health and safety induction for school staff. It does not replace your school's own induction or its safeguarding training, which every member of staff must complete.
