Description
CDM for Refurbishment and Demolition is an online course of approximately 30-45 minutes. Who it is for: Site supervisors, managers, project managers, designers, clients' representatives and operatives involved in refurbishment, strip-out, alteration and demolition work. No previous CDM training is assumed.
The course has five short lessons:
- Why it is high risk: The hazards of existing buildings, CDM duties for refurbishment and demolition, and regulation 20.
- Surveys and information: Asbestos surveys, structural surveys, services, hazardous materials and neighbouring structures.
- Planning demolition: Written arrangements, BS 6187, competent contractors, method and sequence, and exclusion zones.
- Key hazards: Unplanned collapse, falls, services, asbestos and lead, dust, noise and vibration.
- Protecting others: Exclusion zones, the public, neighbours, adjoining structures, waste and environmental controls.
Every teaching page is narrated with captions and includes an interaction. Each lesson before the last ends with a knowledge check, and the last lesson closes with a 12-question assessment drawn from all five lessons (70% to pass, unlimited retakes, results by lesson) and a set of personal commitments recorded with the result.
This course is awareness training on managing refurbishment and demolition under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, in line with HSE guidance and BS 6187. It does not qualify anyone to plan or carry out demolition. Demolition needs competent, specialist contractors and written arrangements.
