Description
Child Safeguarding Awareness is an online course of approximately 30-45 minutes for adults whose work brings them into contact with children, including staff and volunteers in sport, youth, transport, catering, facilities and contractors on children's premises.
The course has five short lessons:
- What safeguarding means: What safeguarding and child protection mean, the law behind them, and why safeguarding is everyone's responsibility.
- Types of abuse: Physical, emotional and sexual abuse and neglect, exploitation, online harm and child-on-child abuse, and their possible indicators.
- Responding to a disclosure: What to do and what not to do when a child tells you something worrying.
- Recording and reporting: Recording concerns factually, reporting to the designated safeguarding lead, escalating if needed, and information sharing.
- Safer working practice: Boundaries, one-to-one situations, online contact, and what to do about concerns about another adult.
Every teaching page is narrated with captions and includes an interaction. Each lesson before the last ends with a knowledge check, and the last lesson closes with a 12-question assessment drawn from all five lessons (70% to pass, unlimited retakes, results by lesson) and a set of personal commitments recorded with the result.
This is safeguarding awareness. It does not qualify anyone as a designated safeguarding lead, and your organisation's own safeguarding policy and designated safeguarding lead always come first.
